Registered Kinesiology Support

Bridging the gap between physical rehabilitation and mental health support.

Recovery, rehabilitation and managing changes in your physical health can affect much more than your body. You may be working hard on rebuilding strength, improving mobility, managing pain or returning to activities that matter to you, while also dealing with fear, frustration, anxiety, loss of confidence or difficulty trusting your body again.

Our Registered Kinesiologist Collaboration Support allows psychotherapy to work alongside your physical rehabilitation, addressing the mental and emotional factors that can sometimes make recovery feel even harder.

You May be here because:

Maybe you've been told you're physically ready to return to an activity, but mentally you don't feel ready at all. You might find yourself constantly monitoring your body for signs that something is wrong, avoiding certain movements because you're afraid of pain or re-injury, or becoming discouraged when your recovery doesn't happen as quickly as you hoped.

Or perhaps an injury, chronic pain or change in your physical abilities has affected your confidence, independence, identity or overall mental health.

You may be experiencing:

  • Fear of movement or re-injury

  • Difficulty trusting your body again

  • Anxiety when returning to exercise, work, sport or everyday activities

  • Chronic pain and the emotional toll of living with it

  • Frustration with slow or unpredictable progress

  • Low confidence following injury or illness

  • Avoidance of movements or activities because of fear

  • Difficulty staying motivated throughout rehabilitation

  • Feeling disconnected from your body

  • Stress related to a diagnosis or change in physical health

  • Loss of independence or changes in your usual routine

  • Grief around things your body used to be able to do

  • Changes in identity following injury or illness

  • Feeling like you're “behind” or should be recovering faster

  • Difficulty coping with setbacks during rehabilitation

Dynamic Strength Rehab and Lauren Mallon Psychotherapy have come together to create a collaborative approach to support anyone looking for support with movement, physical health, strength, rehabilitation or overall well-being, including athletes at recreational, competitive and high-performance levels.

A Registered Kinesiologist may be supporting your movement, strength, physical functioning, exercise or rehabilitation goals. Psychotherapy focuses on another part of that experience: what happens mentally and emotionally while you're trying to get there.

For example, while your kinesiology work may focus on gradually returning to a particular movement, psychotherapy might address the anxiety that appears before attempting it, catastrophic thoughts about re-injury, frustration when progress feels slow, or difficulty trusting your body.

With your consent, collaboration between providers can also help ensure that the different parts of your care are working toward shared goals.

Psychotherapy does not replace medical care, physiotherapy, kinesiology or other physical rehabilitation. Instead, it can complement those services by supporting the person experiencing the injury, pain or physical change, not only the physical condition itself.
